Youth baseball

The Concord Little League 9/10 All-Stars finished pool with a 4-1 record after a 15-3 win over Lamprey River on Saturday. Conor Fennessy had a great game on the mound in relief. Anthony LaTorra had four hits, Nolan Boucher had some big RBI and Harrison Beecher got a big hit to keep a rally going early in the game. Concord LL will compete in the District 2 tournament this week.

City ‘A’ tennis

Top seeds Tomas Gonzalez and George Lagos defeated Matt Elliott and Adam Pignatelli 6-1, 7-6 (7-4); No. 4 Jeff Siegel and Chris Sporcic defeated Mike Lewis and Jim Kennedy 6-7 (7-4), 6-1, 6-1 ; and No. 3 Mike and Nick Bayer defeated Amir Alic and Jason Hall 6-2, 6-1 in men’s doubles quarterfinal action at the Concord City “A” Tournament at Bow Brook Club. Gonzalez and Lagos went on to top Siegel and Sporcic 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals and No. 2 Mark Blaisdell and Roly Lamy survived a three-set battle with father and son tandem Mike and Nick Bayer 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 in the other semifinal match. In the singles semifinals, defending champion Tomas Gonzalez defeated Nick Bayer – a standout at Bedford High – 6-2, 6-2 and No. 4 Amir Alic upset George Lagos 6-7 (7-5), 6-3, 6-4.

Bill Luti 5-Miler

Collin Leibold of Concord, Mass., was the overall winner of the Bill Luti 5-Miler in Concord on Saturday, setting a course record in 24 minutes, 11 seconds. Bedford’s Jennifer Mortimer was the top female finisher in 29:33. Concord’s Aidan O’Hern was the top local finisher, placing eighth overall. Concord’s Hannah Blodgett (age 11 and under), Concord’s Sherry Smith (12-15), Bow’s Maya Brochu (16-19) and Hopkinton’s Christin Doneski (50-54) won their respective age divisions on the women’s side, while Bow’s Owen Miller (12-15), O’Hern (16-19) and Northwood’s Tim Cox (45-49) won their age divisions for the men.

Tryouts/Registrations

N.H. Lightning travel softball league for ages 10U through 18-plus will be holding tryouts for the 2021-22 season the weeks of July 26 and Aug. 2 at Martin Park in Concord. Specific dates and times are available at nhlightning.org or by emailing president@nhlightnight.org.

Camps/Clinics/Lessons

U.S. Tennis Association tennis lessons are being offered in Concord and Bow. Concord lessons at Merrill Park, 27 Eastman St., will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting July 27 and running through Aug. 12. Grades 3-5 will play from 5-6 p.m. and grades 6-8 will play from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Register through Concord Parks & Recreation at concordnh.gov/666/Parks-Recreation. Cost is $75 for residents, $85 for non-residents. A minimum of seven participants is needed and there is a maximum of 12. Lessons in Bow are offered at the Bow High School courts on Wednesdays through Aug. 11. Grades 1-2 play from 4 to 5 p.m., grades 3-5 are 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. and grades 6-8 are 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Register at Bow Recreation, 1 Knox Road. Cost is $80 for residents, $85 for non-residents. All players in their first session receive and keep a new age-appropriate racket, tennis ball and a program t-shirt. For more information, contact instructor Nicole White at whiten65@gmail.com.

Officials needed

Apprentices are needed for the New Hampshire Wrestling Officials Association for the 2021-22 season. A minimum of two years participating in the sport of wrestling as an official, coach or wrestler is required. Training will be in September.
