ARCHERY
Allen County: The Allen County Archers hold 3-D shoots the first Saturday and Sunday of each month through September. It is open to all equipment. They are also holding traditional 3-D shoots on the third Saturday of the month all year long. They are open to all archery equipment. BASEBALL
Lima: Registration is underway for a bus trip to a Cincinnati Reds home game against Detroit at 7:10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4. The cost is $75, which includes a game ticket, round trip transportation, sandwiches and snacks. All beverages will be $1.50. Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. BASKETBALL
Lima: The Xavier Simpson Camp will be held Saturday, July 17, at Lima Senior High School. Camp for boys and girls in kindergarten to fifth grade will be from 9 a.m. until noon and the session for those in graded six through nine will be from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Cost is $70. Participants will train on basketball fundamentals with stations specializing in shooting, dribbling, rebounds and defense. Games and contests will be held with snacks and drinks available. Harrod: The ninth annual Jonathan R. Shively Memorial Scramble will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at Colonial Golfers Club. Shively, a 1988 Perry grad, taught at Perry Local Schools and also served as dean of students, athletic director and coached numerous teams before losing a battle to cancer in 2011. Scramble proceeds will go towards the purchase of new equipment, uniforms and camp attendance for the Perry baseball, football and volleyball teams. Cost is $240 per foursome. Hole advertisers are also being sought along with donations for door and raffle prizes and a silent auction. Bluffton: Bluffton University will play host Saturday, July 24, to the annual Alumni & Friends Scramble to benefit TEAM Bluffton at Bluffton Golf Club. TEAM Bluffton was established to provide financial assistance to the Bluffton athletics program. Gifts directly support the varsity sports program and other needs identified by the athletic department. Registration will be at 9 a.m. with a silent auction opening and doughnuts and coffee being served. A shotgun start will be at 10 a.m. and lunch will be served at 3 p.m. Cost is $90 for individuals and $360 for teams of four. Lima: The 77th annual Lima Area Women’s Match Play Tournament will be held July 29-Aug. 1. The starting times will be 8 a.m. Thursday, July 29; 7:30 a.m. Friday, July 30; and 2 p.m. Saturday, July 31, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1. This year’s courses include Delphos Country Club, Shawnee Country Club and Hidden Creek Golf Club. The tournament is open to women residing in Allen or any adjacent county. Participants do not need a USGA handicap to participate and efforts will be made to fulfill pairing requests for the qualifying round. The format again will be one round of qualifying followed by match play. Entry deadline is July 26. Entry fee is $65. Those ages 55 and older may declare for the Senior Division. Grand Lake: The Grand Lake Fall League is taking registrations for the 2021 Fall League. The Fastpitch Softball league will be divided up into four divisions this year: ninth through 12th grade, sixth through eighth grade, third through fifth grade and a travel team division for 16 and under and 18 and under teams. The league will play two games Sundays for five weeks, There are no practices as to avoid any conflicts with fall sports. SWIMMING
Lima: The Lima Family YMCA is now a home to a USA swim team. USA Swimming is the national governing body for competitive competition in the United States. The program will allow those of any level additional opportunities to swim at some of the best Ohio facilities. Those ages 5-19 are eligible to compete. Practices are held from 5-6:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Family YMCA located at 345 S. Elizabeth St. Practices until July 23 will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and 4:30-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Cost is $125 and participants must be Y members. Lima: Entries are still being accepted for the LATA mixed doubles and junior singles tournaments being held at the University of Northwestern Ohio. The mixed doubles and juniors deadline is 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 28. The mixed doubles will be held Friday, July 30, to Sunday, Aug. 1. The juniors (ages 12-14) will compete Saturday, July 31. Cost for mixed doubles is $40 per team and $15 for junior entries.
