Lee advances to Drive, Chip & Putt regionals
Lakota Lee of Kihei qualified for the regional championships of the Drive, Chip and Putt with a second-place finish in a sub-regional held Saturday at Kapolei Golf Club on Oahu.
Competing in the boys 12-13 division, Lee finished with a score of 114. Finneas Horgan of Oahu won the division with an 118, with both earning spots in the regional tournament at TPC Scottsdale Golf Club in Arizona on Sept. 26
Participants hit three shots at each station–drive, chip and putt–for a total of nine shots. Each shot receives a point value.
Drive, Chip and Putt is a free nationwide junior golf development competition founded in 2013 by the Masters Tournament, USGA and PGA of America.
The national finals will be held at Augusta National Golf Club in March 2022.

Lanai’s Rodrigues earns NIAAA scholarship
Recent Lanai High School graduate Ryllah-Rae Rodrigues was named the female recipient of the Section 7 NIAAA Student Athlete Scholarship on Wednesday.
Section student-athlete scholarships are provided each year by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) to one male and one female student-athlete from each section. They are chosen based on their distinguished scholastic, leadership, and sportsmanship qualities.
A two-sport athlete, Rodrigues competed on the Pine Lads’ eight-player football teams for four years as well as the Pine Lasses’ basketball squad for four years as well.
While attaining her high school degree, Rodrigues also earned her associates degree. She also volunteered at the Lanai Community Health Initiative (LCHI) and served as the class secretary, in addition to other community involvement.
