Best 2021 Met Gala outfits from the sports world, including Serena Williams, Simone Biles – Sporting News

Celebrities in the sports world brought their “A” fashion game Monday night to the annual Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Star athletes — and a few celebrity spouses of star athletes — went all out to stand out on the red carpet.

The gala, which raises millions every year for the museum’s Costume Institute, was postponed in 2020 because of COVID-19, and the 2021 resumption was moved from the usual May date to September and the end of Fashion Week. Designers used the extra time to produce special looks.

The Costume Institute has an exhibit at the Met every year. The theme for this year’s exhibit is “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.” The gala outfits were tailored to that theme.

How well did the attendees make their fashion statements? SN compiled a list of the 10 (actually 11) best-dressed.

Williams is a heavy hitter in the fashion game with her own lines. Monday night, she was enclosed in a cape of pink and black feathers, a look she said was “superhero-inspired.”

The music superstar repped her husband, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, with a gown in the style of his uniform and an accessory made to look like a football. Wilson was home studying film and chopping it up with Peyton and Eli Manning on the brothers’ “Monday Night Football” alternate broadcast.

If it isn’t clear from the image, those are white stars in Westbrook’s hair. Curry, who came with his wife, Ayesha, sported a clean look.

The tennis champion was a co-chair of this year’s gala. She made her grand entrance in a gown that paid homage to her Japanese heritage. The piece incorporated Koi fish, which are symbols of luck and good fortune in Japanese culture.

What a week for the tennis teen. She won the US Open women’s singles title on Saturday after first having to qualify for the tournament. On Monday, she was mingling with entertainment and fashion A-listers. She may have even said hello to her opponent in the final, Canadian teen Leylah Annie Fernandez.
