Drews Named Sports Imports/AVCA Division I Player of the Week – Utah Athletics

SALT LAKE CITY – Three-time All-American Dani Drews has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I Women Player of the Week following dominating performances against Weber State and one of the most significant wins in program history – the road victory at then-ranked No. 3 Nebraska.

Drews’ selection for the national player of the week award comes after she led Utah with a season-high 27 kills and 16 digs in Lincoln. Her double-double aided the Utes in a five-set thriller where Utah rallied from down 0-2 to start the match.

The Sandy, Utah native also kicked off the weekend on a high note, posting an incredible 6.0 kills per set against Weber State with zero hitting errors, recording a hitting percentage of .486 in the sweep over the Wildcats. She also posted a season-high 20 digs in just three sets of play.

She averaged 5.625 kills per set over the pair of matches, along with 4.50 digs per set. Drews leads the Pac-12 and is sixth nationally with 5.0 kills per set this season. She is the third player from Utah to earn a national Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week honor, joining Adora Anae (2017) and Brenda Barton-Whicker (1997).

Drews and the No. 10-ranked Utah volleyball team play this Thursday, Sept. 16 against No. 15 BYU. The Utes and Cougars will go head-to-head at 7 p.m. MT at Smith Fieldhouse in Provo.
